About the N. Senora de las Mercedes <\/strong><\/p>\n

The N. Senora de las Mercedes was a frigate built in 1788, owned by the Spanish Royal Navy. Known as a treasure ship, she departed on a voyage in 1804 loaded with gold, silver, copper, tin, wool and cinnamon.<\/p>\n

Months later, she was sunk by the English fleet at the Battle of Cape Santa Maria off the coast of Portugal. In 2007, the wreckage was discovered along with an impressive haul of the treasure she was carrying.<\/p>\n
