A modern cruise ship is a large, complex subject. Tiered superstructure, hundreds of balconies, lifeboat arrangements, funnel branding and hull livery all have to be right, or the model reads as approximate.
Building a liner accurately
We build from general arrangement drawings and yard or operator photographs. CAD and 3D printing handle the repeating elements, balcony rails, davits, windows and deck furniture, where consistency across hundreds of identical parts is what makes the model convincing. Hull and superstructure are built and finished by hand.
Modern ships and classic liners
Both are built here, and they are different jobs. A current cruise ship is about clean surfaces, glazing and balcony repetition. A classic liner brings riveted plating, multiple funnels and promenade decks, and usually needs archive research to establish her fit at a given date.
Scale and mounting
Scale is agreed around the display space, since a liner modelled too large becomes impractical to house. Waterline builds on a painted or mirrored sea base suit desks and counters. Full hull models on a cradle suit cabinets. Given the fine deck detail, a fitted case is usually worth including.
